Alt Text Generator
Describe the image and the context where it appears (blog post, product page, dashboard, email) and get 2-3 concise alt-text options plus a longer description for informative images. The output follows WCAG 2.2 non-text content guidelines: under 125 characters, no 'image of' prefixes, describes function rather than pixels for UI screenshots, and suggests empty alt for purely decorative images. Powered by Amazon Nova Micro on AWS Bedrock.

Take the AI diagnosticFrequently Asked Questions
- Should alt text include 'image of'?
- No. Screen readers already announce 'image' before reading the alt text, so 'Image of a golden retriever' becomes 'Image image of a golden retriever' to listeners. The tool avoids this prefix automatically.
- What about decorative images?
- For purely decorative images (dividers, background flourishes, icons next to labeled buttons) the tool recommends an empty alt (<code>alt=""</code>) so screen readers skip them. Empty alt is the correct markup — omitting the attribute is not the same and screen readers handle it differently.
- How does it know what to say for UI screenshots?
- It describes the function of the UI, not every pixel. 'Dashboard with 3 unread notifications' is better than 'Screenshot showing a navigation bar with icons, a content area, and three red badges labeled with numbers.' If the screenshot demonstrates a specific step, the alt text reflects the step.
- When should I use the longer description?
- For images that convey complex information — charts, diagrams, infographics. The longer version goes in a <code>figcaption</code> or a linked description page, while the short alt stays under 125 characters. Both are generated so you can pick the right level of detail.
